Day 1 Arrival at Kolkata

Today to start with your North East India with Kolkata and darjeeling Tour, you will be met from your flight to Kolkata International Airport by Summit Safari’s representative and driver, and we will transfer you to your hotel in Kolkata. Rest of the day is free at leisure to relax after the flight

Day 2 Local sightseeing in Kolkata

Today after breakfast we will take you for the private guided tour of Kolkata covering, the famous sights of Kolkata including the Victoria Memorial, Flower Market, Howrah Bridge, Marble Palace, Mother Terrace Home . We will also visit KumarTuli- literally means “Potters’ quarter”, ‘Kumar’ being a potter or artisan. Over time, it has morphed itself into a leading place for sculpting of idols for most major Indian festivals. This place today, is famous for its sculptures of the Goddess Durga (or Shakti) and even exports to a number of countries. You can have lunch with famous Nizam Kathi Roll. By evening return back to the hotel for second night stay in the same hotel in Kolkata.

Day 3 Fly from Kolkata to Guwahati and further drive to Shillong

Today morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and we will transfer drive to Kolkata airport from where you will board your flight to Guwahati the Capital town of Assam, also famous as the commercial capital of North East ( 7 sister states). On arrival at Guwahati you will be met by our driver and we will drive further to Shillong ( 90 kms/ 3 hrs) famous as the Scotland of the East.

Enroute we will stop at the Umiam Lake. The Lake was created by damming the Umiam River in the early 1960s for the purpose of Hydro Electricity project. You can have a walk around the lake or can go for the speed boating trip on Umiam lake.

On arrival at Shillong check in to the hotel and later proceed for the walking tour around the Police bazaar and the local market in Shillong. Overnight and dinner in hotel in Shillong. Overnight in hotel in Shillong.

Day 4 Shilliong to Cherapunji

Today after Breakfast at 08:30 A.M we will check out from the hotel and will drive you to Cherrapunji (55 kms / 3 hrs), also known as Shora. Enroute we will take you for a walking tour with the local guide at the Mawphlang sacred forest.

There is only one rule, however, to be followed in this sacred forest. And, that is – "You cannot take anything out of this forest, else the deity gets upset". Removing even the tiniest thing from the forest means you’re disrespecting the deity. It is said that whoever attempts to break this rule is punished with illness, which can even lead to death. It isn’t just the legends and myths of the sacred forest that attracts tourists, its physical majesty is also a crowd puller. The entry to the forest is marked by lush green branches and as you step inside, you will see an inter-connected network of trees and plants – some of which are said to be over 1,000-years-old. It is an amazing visual spectacle, plus there is a widespread belief that some of these plants possess medicinal properties, including the ability to cure tuberculosis and cancer. In addition, there are monoliths inside the forest that are considered to be the spot for sacrifices. The local tribal people sacrifice animals here to make their wishes come true.

Later continue your drive to Cherrapunji the small hilly village 56 kms from Shillong. It is one of the most visited tourist place of North East India at a height of 1300 metres and is one of the wettest places on earth.

The old Cherra or Sohrarim was the original Chera village, but the British Established their headquarters further south and village came to known as Shora. The narrow winding road from shilling is quiet picturesque. The entire region teems with gushing waterfalls, plunging into deep gorges. On arrival at Cherrapunji visit the Arwah Cave. The Arwah caves are limestone caves known for its fossil formations, limestone structures and stalagmite and stalactite formations which are believed to be millions of years old and are naturally carved. It houses many narrow passages and chambers as well as a stream that flows inside the cave.

We will also Nohkalikai water falls from the view point. The view point also offers the finest views of the plains of Bangladesh. By evening check into the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 Day walk to Nongriat village to visit the living root bridges

Today morning after breakfast at 08:00 A.M drive to Terla village ( 20 minutes) from where you will start your walk to Nongriat and will visit the Living Root Bridges in the area(trekking 2 hrs down hill and 2.30 hrs uphill back). You have to walk 3000 steps downhill and uphill to reach these beautiful living root s bridges. Living root bridges are one of the major highlights during the Assam and Meghalaya Cultural, nature and wildlife tour. You will visit a couple of living root bridges in the area and the most famous among all is the Double Decker Living Root Bridge at Nongriat. Walking to Nongriat will take minimum 5-6 hrs both ways as you will stop for various pictures break and will also have lunch in the village. Return back to Cherrapunji by evening. Second night stay and dinner at the hotel in Cherrapunji.

Please Note: alternative sightseeing or change of tour plan would be suggested during the time of planning your tour with us, for the people who do not want to do this hike to the Living Root Bridge at Nongrait Village (5-6 hrs of walking down and up both ways).

Day 6 Cherrapunji to Shillong via Dawki

Today morning 7:30 A.M check out from the hotel and drive to Dawki (85 kms / 3.30 hrs) a small town and the border crossing between India and Bangladesh. We will take the boat ride( 30 minute) on the Umangot River, in a small village near Dawki with greenish-bluish water so clear that one can see the bottom of the river even from as high as the bridge over the river. You can have lunch here and later continue your drive to Shillong ( 85 kms/ 3 hrs) the Capital town of Meghalaya. Overnight in hotel in Shillong.

Day 7 Shillong to Kaziranga National Park

Today morning after breakfast at 08:30 A.M drive to Kaziranga (310 kms/ 6 hrs). Just out of Shillong we will stop at the Umiam Lake view point. The Lake was created by damming the Umiam River in the early 1960s for the purpose of Hydro Electricity project.

We do stop for comfort breaks and will arrive Kaziranga National park by late afternoon. Kaziranga National park is a world heritage site famous for the Great Indian One Horned Rhinoceros. The landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes and shallow pools. Kaziranga also has a good number of Tigers and is home to large breeding population of Elephants, Wild Water Buffalo and Swamp Deer. Check in to the hotel and later evening 6.30 P.M we will take you to visit the Cultural Dance performance at the where you can enjoy a couple of Assam cultural performances by the local artist. Overnight stay in Kaziranga.

Day 8 Morning Elephant/ Jeep safari in Kaziranga National park drive to Johrat

Today early morning we will take you to visit the Kaziranga National Park by jeep/ Elephant depends as per the availability of the tickets for elephant ride which is very limited in number, otherwise jeep safari tickets are available. You would be able to see the Great Indian One Horned Rhinoceros, Elephants, Wild Water Buffalo and Swamp Deer.

Later we will return back to the hotel for breakfast and later check out from the hotel and around 11:00 A.M we will drive you to visit a nearby village for the authentic India travel experience, where we will join a local family for the cooking classes and lunch. Interaction with the locals will provide you the insight of Assamese culture. Late afternoon continue our drive to Johrat (110 kms/ 3 hrs) where we will arrive by evening. Check to your tea bungalow with a golf course in the middle of the tea plantations. Two nights in Johrat.

Please Note: The Kaziranga National Park remains open from 01st Nov. to 30th April every year. But from last year government was able to open it one month earlier from 1st Oct to Mid May depending on the monsoon. We are hopeful that the government / forest department would be able to open it as per the dates of previous year but the dates can be confirmed just a month is advance depending on the weather and the monsoons in the area.

Day 9 Johrat to Majuli Islands and back to Johrat

Today after early morning breakfast at 7:00 A.M we will drive you to Nimati Ghat ( 45 minutes) to board the ferry to Majuli Islands (1 hrs drive and 1 hrs by ferry). The ferry departs every after 1 hrs to Majuli Islands, carrying the passengers, cars/ bikes on the river Brahmaputra. On arrival at Majuli Islands proceed for a tour around the Island and observing the life of the local tribal people the most famous among the missing tribe the Tibeto-Burman clan of the Mongoloid race.

Majuli Islands located in Brahmputra River Assam, listed as world's largest river Island (1250 sq) in Guinness book of world's record. Majuli, is the largest freshwater river island (1250 sq km) in the world and is contesting for a position in the "World Heritage” list. Since water bodies cover most of the island, it attracts a number of local and migratory birds. About twenty six Satras ( cultural houses of power ) are located in Majuli. These Satras propogate the religious ideology of medeival Assam’s Vaisnavite saints like Sankardev and Madhavdev.

At Majuli we will visit the Potters house where you will experience how clay pots are still made using traditional techniques. We will also visit Mr. Goswami a famous Mask making artist from the Area. We will visit a Satra also-- The satras are not just monasteries, but centres of traditional performing arts. The songs and dances initiated by Shri. Sankaradeva the father of Assamese culture. The satras consist of a large prayer hall facing a simple shrine, surrounded by dormitories and bathing tanks for monks. Here, Govenda is worshipped through dance, drama, music and poetry. Late afternoon take a ferry back to Nimati Ghat and drive back to Johrat for second night stay at the hotel in Johrat tea Estate.

Day 10 Drive Johrat to Guwahati

Today after breakfast check out from the hotel and we will take you for a tea tour around a tea estate known for producing high quality CTC teas. Also experience a tea tasting session of different types of tea with a knowledgeable person in the field of tea / practicing estate Manager. Later check out from the hotel and drive to Guwahati (300 kms/ 5.30 hrs). Evening take a walking tour around the Paan bazaar and Paltan bazaar in Guwahati.

Day 11 Guwahati to Darjeeling

Today morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and as per your flight schedule we will transfer you o Guwahati airport, from where you will board your flight to Bagdogra. On arrival at Bagdogra airport you will be met by our driver and we will drive you to Darjeeling ( 90 kms / 3.30hrs). Darjeeling is a beautiful hill station with tea gardens , the magnificent views of Kanchenjunga range of Himalayan mountains ( world’s third-highest peak, 8,598 metres / 28,209 feet and the world famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railways a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in West Bengal state of India. Arrive Darjeeling by evening where you will stay for three nights.

Day 12 Darjeeling Local Sightseeing

Today morning we will take you for a walking and some parts to be covered with driving half day sightseeing around Darjeeling. The places to visit during the Darjeeling tour would include Mahakaal temple on the Observatory hill, Padma Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Himalayan Mountaineering institute with museum with memorabilia from many Everest expeditions, as well as an interesting selection of photographs and the Tibetan Refugee centre (closed on Sunday) which was established, as a rehabilitation centre for the Tibetan refugees who come to Darjeeling after the Chinese invasion on Tibet. It was set up as a home for the aged Tibetans, orphanage, clinic, monastery, School, craft workshop that produce carpets, woodcarvings, leather work, woollen items, spinning, dyeing etc. It provides a chance to the Tibetan community to continue to practise their skills in traditional handicrafts and provide a sales outlet. If interested one can even take a cable car downhill to the tea gardens. Rest of the time is free to explore the mall road of Darjeeling. Second night in the same hotel in Darjeeling.

Please Note: In the late afternoon at 04:00 P.M high tea could be arranged at the Hotel Windamere Darjeeling for you at an extra cost. The hotel is already known by many as a “truly authentic Colonial Hotel of India in the Himalayas”. The ‘Sunday Times of London’ called it: 'One of the best Colonial Hotels in the World'.

This authenticity also applies to their tea offering. Everything is home-baked and fresh. They serve: scones, with cream and jam; finger sized sandwiches (water cress, cucumber, cheese and chutney, tuna…to name but a few); lemon drizzle cake; Victoria sponge cake; melt in your mouth shortbread biscuits; bath buns; bakewell tarts and many more too numerous to mention. All of this is accompanied by that ‘champagne of beverages’ – Darjeeling Tea..! What is known as ‘Darjeeling Tea’ in the west cannot hope to compare with the real thing – drunk on its own and from the top tea gardens in the Darjeeling. Afternoon Tea is served by their Windamere maid – dressed appropriately in old English tea maid attire. The actual “tea” is served in real silver pots, complete with a silver tray and silver accoutrements.

Day 13 Darjeeling Local Journey on Darjeeling Himalayan Toy Train Mountain Railways Of India

Today morning at 07:20 A.M. we will drive you Darjeeling Railway Station, to board the UNESCO Heritage Darjeeling Himalayan Railway leaving Darjeeling at 08:00 A.M. to Kurseong arriving at 10:30 A.M . The Darjeeling Himalayan railway the toy train runs along the road and criss cross it many times. The toy train gets so close to the house and shops that you can just grab a packet of chips hanging outside the shops. On arrival at Kurseong, you will have time to walk around Kurseong and later drive back to Darjeeling. Ghum 2,258 metres (7,407 ft) 6 kms before Darjeeling, is the highest railway station in India.

On the way back we stop for the sightseeing at Batsia Loop one of the famous loops of the Darjeeling toy train, Tiger Hill & Dali Monastery. Later drive back to the hotel and rest of the time is free to explore the local market/ Mall Road and Chowrasta in Darjeeling. Third night at the same hotel in Darjeeling.

Optional: If one want to have a Steam Train ride in Darjeeling it is possible to do it on a short route of 6 kms from Darjeeling to Ghum.

Day 14 Darjeeling to Kolkata

Today morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and we will drive you to Bagdogra airport ( 90 kms / 3 hrs) to board your flight back to Kolkata. On arrival at Kolkata airport you will be met by our driver and we will be transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay in Kolkata.

Optional: Tonight from 7:30 P.M. to 10:30 P.M you can go for the Dinner on the Cruiser : MV Millennium for the Ganges tour followed by the dinner on the cruise.

Day 15 Fly Back to Your Country

Today morning after breakfast, check out from the hotel and as per your flight schedule we will transfer you to the international airport in Kolkata, from where you will board your flight back to home.

Internal travel by road from Guwahati to Cherrapunji, Shilliong, Kaziranga National Park, Johrat, Majuli, Darjeeling by a private chauffeur-driven SUV car / similar vehicle.

Travel between Johrat to Majuli Island is by a Ferry on River Brahmputra. Internal flights will be provided on 3 routes from Kolkata to Guwahati, Guwahati to Bagdogra and Bagdogra to Kolkata back at the end of the tour.
