While riding The 500 CC Royal Enfield motor Bikes we start on the adventurous journey from Shimla, which was once the summer capital of India during the British era and then continue to the Trans Himalayan Regions of Kinnaur & Spiti valley, before we join the Manali Leh Highway to reach the World’s highest Mountain Pass Khardungla Pass in Ladakh valley. We ride our Royal Enfield Motor Bikes through one of the most isolated, remotest and vibrant regions of the Himalayas- over the World’s six highest mountain passes, including Kunzum pass (4551 metres/ 15, 000 feet), Baralacha Pass (4,830 metres/ 15, 847 feet), Naki La Pass (4,740 metres/ 15,551 feet), Lachungla Pass (5,019 metres/ 16,467 feet) and Tanglang La Pass (5,360 metres/17,585 feet) and Khardungla Pass 5,600 metres / 18,380 feet.

Every day on your Motor Bike tour you will not just travel through the country by 500Cc Royal Enfield Bike, but you will meet local people, have a cup of tea with them and share your thoughts with them, and listen to them. Day 1 Arrival Delhi

You will be met from your flight to Delhi International Airport by Summit Safari’s representative / your tour guide, and he will accompany you to your hotel in New Delhi. Rest of the day free at rest after a long flight.

Day 2 Delhi to Shimla

Today it is along but interesting day of journey from the plains of India from Delhi to The Foot Hills of Himalayas to Shimla. Early in the morning, you will be assisted to board the super fast Shatabdhi train from New Delhi (07:30 A.M) to Chandigarh (11: 10 A.M). Breakfast will be served to you on this first class train. On arrival at Chandigarh railway station we will be met by our drivers and they will drive us to Shimla, in the Foothills of Himalayas. We will arrive Shimla by 3:00 P.M where on arrival you will be assisted to the government office for the process of making the inner line permits, which would be required for your further journey into upper Kinnaur and to the Spiti valley. Evening free to walk around Shimla- the erstwhile “Summer Capital of India”. Overnight stay in hotel in Shimla.

Day 3 Shimla Short Familiarisation Ride - 50km

Today we will meet our team, guides, mechanics, helpers etc and the Royal Enfield Motorcycle that you will ride for the next several days to the Indian Himalayas. After an exhaustive briefing by your ride leader / tour escort we will be taking a short ride (2-3 hrs) around Shimla, in an effort to know your motor bike properly and to get familiar with its controls and riding conditions on Indian Roads. If you feel to do some adjustments in your motor bike, the accompanying mechanic will do the final adjustments for you in the evening. The rest of the day is free for leisure or sight-seeing. The evening can be spent taking a walk on The Mall, soaking-in the charm of Shimla and visiting the Ridge, scandal point of Shimla, Christ Church of Shimla.

Day 4 Shimla to Sarahan

After breakfast we will start our ride on The Royal Enfield Motor Bike to Sarahan a beautiful village in the country sides of Shimla, on our way to deep into the Himalayas. We will be following the Indo- Tibetian Border Road (National Highway No. 22) till a small village Jeori from where we will ride uphill to Sarahan. Today it is a ride of 8-9 hrs, through the beautiful villages of Fagu, Theog, Matiana, Narkanda and Rampur. En route we will have many comfort breaks and photo stops. We will visit the Hattu peak (10,000 feet) at Narkanda, from where you can have a spectacular view of the mighty Central Himalayas. We will stop for lunch on the way to Rampur and reach Sarahan by evening and check in your hotel. Sarahan, the tiny village offers the splendid views of Shrikhanda Mahadev Peak (5,155 metres). The major attraction in Sarahan is centuries-old Hindu temple of Goddess Bhimakali. Steeped in legend, the temple complex is a resplendent example of hill architecture. Sarahan is also the gateway to Kinnaur valley. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 5 Sarahan to Sangla

After breakfast at your hotel, we will visit the famous temple of Bhimakali at Sarahan. This is the same temple in which human sacrifices were made about two centuries ago. After visiting the temple we will continue riding our 500CC Royal Enfield motor Bikes to Sangla (4-5 hrs). We drive down from Sarahan to Jeori (NH-22), yesterday where we left the Indo – Tibetian Borer road. Today we will enter the Kinnaur valley. Riding along the fierce Sutlej river flowing in the gorges below we will reach Karchham from where leaving the Indo –Tibetian border road behind, we will take a road in to the beautiful Baspa valley. Riding on the challenging mountain road for another 18 km on the narrow winding road with hair-raising gorges & cliffs high above the Baspa River gushing below we will reach Sangla village by late afternoon. The valley is also known as the Baspa Sangla valley, after river Baspa which flows through the valley and it is the part of Kinnaur valley. Rest of the day free at leisure. Overnight in comfortable luxury tented accommodation in Sangla.

Day 6 Sangla (Return trip to Chitkul)

After breakfast we will make an easy start and will take a short ride to Chitkul village, another quaint village in the Baspa Valley. Chitkul is the last village on the Indian Border with Tibet (Chineese occupied Tibet) and offers great views of snow clad peaks of the Kinnaur region. The village of Chitkul is like something from a fairy tale, and you will have a chance to walk slowly around it. We will return back to Sangla for lunch and rest of the day is free to have some rest, just to enjoy the views from your beautiful campsite in the lap of Himalayas or if you are interested, you can take a walk along the Baspa river to visit village Batseri, where we will visit the beautifully carved old temples and Buddhist monasteries. You will have plenty of opportunity to speak to the local people in these valleys, and our guide will be happy to interpret. The landscapes are stunning, and you will have plenty of time to enjoy them .Second night in the same comfortable luxury tented accommodation in Sangla.

Day 7 Sangla to Kalpa

After breakfast we will start our ride back down to Karchham NH-22 and will continue on the Indo Tibetian Road to Recong Peo, the district headquarters of Kinnaur valley. 07 km above Recong Peo is the village of Kalpa. You will check in to your hotel. And after some rest you may wish to take a walk to Kalpa village and a ride to the nearby Roghi village. These villages are covered with thick pine forests and are famous for apricots and apples. The finest view of the Mt. Kinner Kailash (6,000 metres) can be had from here. This is a spectacular sight early in the morning as the rising sun touches the snowy peaks with crimson and gold light. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 8 Kalpa to Nako

After breakfast we will ride further down to Recong Peo and will meet The NH 22 at Powari to Nako .Today the mountain landscapes start changing from green to rocky barren and brown landscapes. Riding along the Sutlej we will reach Akpa / Spello village, where our Inner Line Permits will be checked at a Police check post. Another 35 km ride will bring us to Khab, the confluence of the Sutlej and Spiti rivers. Leaving Sutlej behind, from this point we will be riding high along the Spiti river to reach Nako, a village situated near the small but beautiful Nako Lake (3,660 metres). After lunch we will take you for a walk in the village with your guide and visit the Buddhist monastery related to guru Padmasambhava (a great Buddhist scholar, whose teachings spread to Tibet from India), we will also visit Nako Lake, the residence of His Holiness The Dalai Lama ji. This is first of the many high altitude lakes visited by you on this tour. Rest of the time you are free to enjoy a wonderful view of the whole Nako village with the Himalayas as the backdrop of the village. Overnight in fixed tented camps with attached toilets in Nako.

Day 9 Nako to Tabo to Dhankar

Today after breakfast we will continue our ride through the higher Himalayan valleys. Enroute we will cross “Maling Nala”- a major water cross on road, the beautiful villages of Chango, Sumdo, Shalkher. Today we will be entering the beautiful Spiti valley which is also known as the cold desert of the Himalayas (as this area is cut from rest of the world due to heavy snow in the winters). Our inner line permits will be checked in Sumdo again at the police check post. After finishing with the process of inner line permits we will continue our drive to Dhankar village and monastery and en route visit the Gue village which is also the last Indian village on Indo-Tibetan boarder. Here we will be visiting the naturally preserved mummy of a Buddhist monk which is about 600 years old, which was discovered here while building the road. Later on we will continue our ride to Dhankar and enroute we will visit the Tabo monastery which is the oldest monastery in the Himalayas. After lunch we will continue our ride further to Dhankar village where we will stay in a guest house for one night.

Day 10 Dhankar to Kaza

After breakfast we will visit the Dhankar village, monastery and the ruins of Dhankar fort, which presents the magnificent views of the Himalayan Mountains with the village and pin valley below. Later on we continue our drive to Kaza where we will check in at your hotel. Kaza is the head-quarters of the Spiti sub-division and we will be staying here for two consecutive nights. Here we would be able to use facilities like Internet & long distance phone calls again that we left behind at Kalpa.

Day 11 Local day ride around Kaza

After breakfast we will start our ride to Langza and Komic village (4,275 Metres), considered to be one of the highest villages in the world. Later on we will return back to Kaza and will continue our ride to Kee Monastery and the village of Kibber. We will visit Kee Monastery and will have a walk around Kibber village, before we ride back to Kaza. Lunch will be in a local restaurant in Kee / Kibber village. Second night in the same hotel in Kaza.

Day 12 Kaza to Chandartal Lake

After breakfast we will ride further into higher Himalayas, today we will cross The Kunzum Pass (4,551 metres / 15,000 feet) and will reach at the second High Altitude Lake on your tour. Enroute we will pass by some of the very beautiful villages of Spiti Valley , will cross a couple of water streams (glacier melts) and will ride over Kunzum pass (4,551 metres / 15,000 feet) the first mountain pass of our tour. On the other side of the Kunzum pass, just before a couple of kilometers before Batal a rough road leads you to the Beautiful Chandertal Lake also known as the “Lake Of The Moon”. Just 1-2 kms before the lake we will camp at a pasture land as, the Motor bikes / Vehicles are not allowed beyond this point & camping is no longer permitted near the lake. Here, the accommodation will be at a “make-shift” camp-site in “dome” tent (sleeps two each). Sleeping bags will be provided. Dinner & breakfast will be basic “camping meals”. Call of nature will have to be answered in a small toilet tents or “in the open”, as per your preference. Rest of the day is free to walk around the beautiful Clear water “Chandertal Lake”.

Day 13 Chandertal to Jispa

After breakfast we will ride down into the Lahaul Valley, along the Chandra river, originating from a glacier near Baralacha La. The road from Chandertal all the way to Gramphu (where it meets the popular “Manali-Leh highway”) offers some of the most thrilling riding experience we will have on this tour. This stretch of the journey has several big & small water crossings challenging enough to test your grit & determination. After Gramphu it’s a relatively smooth ride till Keylong and Jispa (20 km ahead of Keylong). On the way, the Chandra & Bhaga Rivers meet at Tandi (which is also the last fuel station before Leh) & together form the Chandra-Bhaga River which is renamed as “Chenab” in Jammu & Kashmir state. We will arrive Jispa by late afternoon which is small village, mainly serving as a convenient stop-over on the way to Leh – Ladakh with small local hotels to stay.

Day 14 Jispa to Sarchu

After breakfast we will ride to Sarchu over Baralacha Pass (4,830 metres/ 15,847 feet). The day includes many hairpins, especially in the scaling of a sinuous ribbon of tarmac up to our second mountain pass, Baralacha La Pass and we will also visit the Surajtal Lake, another of the high altitude lakes in the region. Sarchu is the last border point between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh, where local agents put up a tented colony for the convenience of the tourists during summer season. Overnight in basic tented accommodation with attached toilets.

Day 15 Sarchu to Tso-Kar Lake

Today we ride through 21 hair pin bends to Lachlung La Pass (5,019 metres / 16,467 feet) and enroute we enjoy magnificent views of the Mountains and the valleys. We will also cross Naki La Pass (4,740 metres / 15,551 feet) before we ride down into the valley to Pang. Today there are chances to see the Snow ibex and the herds of wild Himalayan blue sheep in between Sarchu to Pang. Lunch will be taken at the small eating places with fresh food at village of Pang, before we ride through the vast More Plains the highest of the Tibetan Plateau at 4,200 metres– to Tsokor lake. This region also has rare wild life like the Tibetan wild Ass, wolf, and the elusive Snow Leopard, the black-necked Crane and Tibetan Snow Cock After around an hour’s riding we will leave the Manali Leh road at the end of more plains and will take right turn into another valley After around an hour’s riding in this bleak yet spectacular setting, and head for Tso-Kar, a deep blue salt lake, set against the spectacular Himalayan setting, reached via remote Himalayan roads. Here we will stay overnight in a fixed tented seasonal camp.

Day 16 Tso-kar Lake To Leh

After breakfast we will take a short ride to Tsokor lake and later we will head North- East to meet the Manali Leh road Again where we leave it yesterday. We Continue riding our motor bikes to Tanglang La pass (5,360 metres / 17,585 feet.) the second highest motorable pass in the world that commands breath taking views of the Zanskar range and the upper Indus valley. We stop on the way in the local eating places to sip a cup of tea. Later while following the Indus river and the spectular mountains views with green fields , traditional Himalayan villages, purple mountains, sandy landscape we arrive in Leh – the capital of Ladakh valley, by late afternoon. Overnight stay in Hotel in Leh.

Day 17 Local in Leh

Today we have an easy rest day or you can ride around Leh at your own pace to view some of the famous sights of Leh including shanty Stupa, Leh palace, Leh market etc. Even there is a choice to have a walking tour to all these places. Leh town also known as the Little Tibet due to the landscapes and the Buddhist Religion and the oldest Buddhist Monasteries. It is at nearly 12,000 feet above sea-level in the Upper Indus Valley and like all Ladakh its culture is principally Tibetan Buddhist. There are also Muslim, Christian and Hindu communities in Leh. Overlooking the town is the huge, nine-storey Leh Palace, long since abandoned, but still impressive and worth a visit. There are many more ancient temples and monasteries to visit and the old market is a fascinating experience. There are also modern influences in this busy tourist area, including a plethora of restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, internet, public phone booth etc. Second Night in the same hotel in Leh.

Day 18 Leh - Khardung La Pass - Leh

Today we leave Leh for our challenging ride over Khardung La Pass (5,600 metres / 18,380 feet ,’La’ meaning ‘pass’ in Ladakhi), reputed to be the world’s highest motorable road. In less than 30 miles (40 kms) the road will carry us around 8000 feet high in altitude. On the other side of the mountain pass the road leads town to Nubra valley following the old silk route. The views from the Khardung la pass across to the Kangri Mountains (25,000 feet) is one of India’s highest mountains and Zanskar beyond are consistently stunning. We will have time for pictures and to sip a cup of Tea in The world’s highest restaurant here. Later on we will ride back down to Leh through the same route. Third night in the same hotel in Leh.

Day 19 Leh Monastery Tour

Today after breakfast we will ride to stock palace and Museum, Thiksey monastery and will return back to hotel by late afternoon. Rest of the time is free for your final shopping or to relax your own.

Day 20 Fly from Leh to Delhi

After breakfast, in the morning we will assist you to Leh airport to board the flight back to New Delhi. After your arrival at New Delhi airport you will be met & assisted by Summit Safari’s representative, and he will accompany you to your hotel. Check in at your hotel and have time to fresh up your self, later on you will be taken for a half day tour of Delhi , and we will visit Bangla sahib Gurudwara ( a Sikh shrine), a walking tour of old Delhi market and the Gandhi Smriti, also known as the Birla house where –Mahatma Gandhi had lived the last 144 days of his life from 09 September 1947 to 30 January 1948 when he was assassinated in 78th year of life at Birla House Prayer Grounds by Nathuram Godse. Thus, the house treasures many memories of his life. If interested we will arrange for a bicycle rickshaw ride in old Delhi or a Tuk- Tuk ( Three wheeler ) ride in New Delhi for you. Return back to your hotel in evening.

Day 21 Fly back to your country

Today after breakfast at your hotel, you will be assisted and will be transfer to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight. In case you have a flight at night or in late evening than you may wish to go to visit the Connaught place market where you notice typical Georgian buildings and market centres. This place is named after Duke of Connaught. You can have a choice to have your lunch in a local restaurant in New Delhi and later on we will transfer you to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight.

This is where the tour ends. However, if you wish to stay longer in Delhi or want to take extension tour, we can make arrangements for you to be transferred to the airport at a later time.

Shimla and Leh Ladakh is one of the most favorite tourist destinations of Himalayas, but Kinnaur and spiti valley in the central Himalayan region are still anoff beat route for travellers. There are no star category hotels in the valley. In some places, in the remote valleys of Himalayas only fixed tented accommodation is available with basic food (hygienic food) and accommodation — which is quite neat & clean.

On your tour, you stay in comfortable mid range A class Indian hotels with neat and clean fixed tented accommodation at some places in the high Himalayas. We would like to discuss and make suggestions about accommodation at the time of planning your holidays with us.
