This guided Shimla heritage walk tour provides you a perfect introduction about the history of British arrival and the developments of becoming a small Himalayan village of “Shyamala” to “Simla” making of the Colonial Summer Capital of India and further to known today as “Shimla”. We walk to discover the past and to experience the present through the stories that unfold during our Shimla walks.
On the heritage walk of Shimla, we visit many historical and heritage buildings, each possessing a different style of architecture. We do explore the local bazaars and enjoy the local food with the insight to the culture of the hill station town of Shimla. The starting point of our Shimla heritage walk is from one end of the town either at Viceroy’s House, now known as the Indian Institute of Advance studies or near the Hotel Clarks at one end of the Mall Road.
We’ll start our heritage walk of Shimla from the Viceroy’s house and passing from Cecil Hotel, Kennedy cottage (sight of the first British house in Shimla), State Legislative building (Council chambers), Gorton Castle (accountant general's office), Railway Board Building, Grand hotel (Bentinck's Castel), ), Telegraph office, General Post office building (Connie Cottage), Scandal Point of Shimla, Town hall Gaiety Theater, Bandstand, The Ridge, Christ Church, Mall Road, Combermere bridge and finishes at hotel Clark’s.

Brief Itinerary : 1 Day Tour
Morning 9:15 A.M to start with the day tour, Shimla Heritage walk –in the Footsteps of Raj you will be met by your local English speaking guide at the hotel lobby who is going to provide you a memorable and enjoyable walking tour around Shimla. We will drive you to Viceroy’s House now known as Indian Institute of advance studies at one end of the town with a local taxi. We will take a guided tour of the Viceroy’s house.
Later continue our Shimla heritage walk, walking under the shades of the cedar tress we pass by many historical buildings, government offices, bank buildings, heritage hotels including the Cecil Hotel, Kennedy cottage (sight of the first British house in Shimla), State Legislative building (Council chambers), Gorton Castle (accountant general's office), Railway Board Building, Grand hotel (Bentinck's Castel), ), Telegraph office, General Post office building (Connie Cottage) to the Scandal Point of Shimla where we will arrive approximately around 1.00 PM.
Enroute there are possibilities to enjoy a local cup of Chai (milk tea), in a local road side shop or have a drink at the hotel Cecil or enjoy coffee at the Indian Coffee house the favourite of the locals.
You will stop for you your tea break / lunch break (45 minutes) at the British Bandstand which is now converted to a restaurant and provides great choice of India food and atmosphere full of locals.
After lunch and a little rest we restart our heritage walk of Shimla and visit the Christ Church of Shimla, the town hall, the Gaiety Theatre of Shimla on a guided tour. We do explore the mall road the main shopping and Pedestrian Street of Shimla with the local Lower bazaar of Shimla. Enjoying the stories of your guide and having the deep insight of the history, culture and food we will finish our tour at the heritage hotel Clarks’ on the other end of the Mall road.
Please Note: The Shimla heritage walk is a day tour programme which covers approximately 5 kms on foot from one end of the heritage zone to the other end of the heritage zone in the town. It’s a very comfortable walking tour around Shimla and takes about 7 hrs to finish- depending on your interest and available time. Walk at a comfortable pace that suits you with a professional English speaking local guide, so you can enjoy your walk and enjoy the information regarding the culture, history and heritage of Shimla that unfold the passage back into time for you.
