Tara Devi is a 300 years old sacred temple at a height of 2100 metres (6890 ft.), dedicated to the Hindu goddess of stars (Tara Devi), on a hill top near Shimla. Now a day’s even there is a road link to the temple (23 kms.), from the back side of the hill from Shoghi. Many local people and tourist still choose to walk up to the temple. This walk starts from Tara Devi bus stand / Taradevi railway station 7 kms. from Shimla on the Kalka Shimla highway. One has to hike for about two hours, (about 4-5 kilometers-one way) to reach the temple which is located ideally at the ridge of the hill with wide views on to all the sides.

Through the dense forest of the pinewood, oak, Rodadendram, rich in flora and fauna, passing through the green meadows on the way, it is one of the most beautiful walks around Shimla. The meandering foot path, climbs gently to the top of the hill and it turns to be a tireless climb. On the way to the top there are various places which offer wide panoramic views of the countrysides as well as the Shimla town with the Himalayas at back. Atmosphere of the hike rejuvenates the nature lovers and common tourists visiting this sacred temple, which provides excellent views. Pine – scented mild breeze on the way refreshes people beyond expectations.

Optional: One can even take a Train Ride on The famous UNSECO Heritage Kalka Shimla Mountain Railways of India, from Shimla Railway station to Tara devi Railway station for approximately 1 hrs, and later you can start your uphill hike to the Tara devi Peak and Temple or could drive uphill (30 minutes from a different route and can hike downhill 2 hrs from the Tara devi Hill and Temple to The Tara Devi Bus station, from where our driver will again pick you up and drive you to the hotel in Shimla. How to reach Tara Devi: Our Guide will pick you up from your hotel by 09:30 AM and a drive with a private Toyota Innova Jeep / similar car from Shimla to Tara Devi bus stop and can start the walk / hike to the hill top and temple from there. Even you can take a morning Train Ride on the famous UNSECO Heritage Kalka Shimla Mountain Railways of India (narrow gauge line), from Shimla Railway station at (10:25 AM) to Tara Devi (11:15 AM) and can start you trek from there. Railway station at Tara Devi is closer to the road and is the starting point for the walk.

Please Note: The clients can also drive uphill with a car to the Tara Devi Hill and temple and further trek downhill 2 hrs, where the driver will meet them and will drive them back to Shimla. We can make suggestions about the walks at the time of booking your hike with us.
